The LIFE Stencil, Map & Database
The LIFE is Living Map is scheduled to launch Oct 2, 2010.
In an environmental movement where the dominant narrative conjurs images of plant life and animals, it can be difficult for some to see the merit in addressing communities with high environmental trauma (urban polution leading to increase mortality rate, bad food leading to youth violence, abundnace of liquor stores linked to drug usage).
We believe in messages that include environmental crimes against communities like West Oakland & the South Bronx to be just as pressing as those in the Western Arctic & the Southern Amazon.
The LIFE stencil, Map & Database will be a central tool in accomplish:
- Establish a new tool to powerfully LIFE to less popularly prioritized forms of Environmental Injustices
- Increasing our communities power to influence and benefit from the GREEN movement
- Encourages people to paint LIFE in areas torn down breathes life into death, giving a direct counter position to the decay and state forgotten areas.
- Establish the LIFE stencil as a symbol that an urban environmental injustice has occurred
- Lobby for an icon to be added to the generally accepted Green Map, that show example of an urban environmental injustice
- Encourage members of the communities involved to submit areas where a LIFE stencil is needed
